This berry chia seed jam is a delicious and nutritious way to start your day. It is refined sugar-free, and it tastes better and more fresh than store-bought jams. Especially in the heat of the summer, berries can be so refreshing. They are packed with antioxidants and they provide a lot of health benefits.
Traditional jams have an unnecessary amount of added sugar. The fruit on its own is usually sweet enough. Note: some fruits are sweeter than others, and more tart fruits (like raspberries) may need more sweetener. This recipe replaces other forms of sugar with honey, which is okay to enjoy in moderation.
Another big bonus and the star of this jam: the chia seeds. Not only do the chia seeds thicken your jam, but they are a great way to get more fiber and are a good source of omega 3’s.
This berry chia seed jam tastes great on yogurt, pancakes, classic peanut butter and jelly toast, and pretty much any breakfast food. The ratio of 2 cups of berries to 2-3 tablespoons of chia seed is what works for me, but if it’s too thin, feel free to add more chia seeds in small amounts.

Yield: about 1 cup
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 cup frozen raspberries
- 2-3 tablespoons chia seeds
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
- Add blueberries and raspberries to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir and mash fruit until it is at your desired consistency (I like some chunks of fruit in mine).
- Stir the chia seeds and lemon juice in and taste. If needed, add the honey and keep stirring.
- Take it off the heat and let it cool and thicken for 10 minutes.
- Serve or move to a sealable container and store in fridge for up to a week.
